I discovered an ancient art book over 100 years of age. There are a lot of northern style drawing in rice paper book. I was attracted by a picture of kinnaree - - a half human, half fairy bird that lives in Himavanta Forest. She is dancing and her gestures are not similar to dances in the central part of Thailand. However, she dances beautifully in the folk style. From this impression, I made my own painting concerning the Thai literature titled " Pra Suthon and Manohra ". In this painting, a kinnaree called Manohra is captured from the forest and brought to the human town. Her wings and tail are put away so that she can't fly back to Himavanta Forest. Therefore, she has made a plan - - to perform a sacrificial dance for the king. She requests for her wing and tail to wear as the costumes. While the viewers are enchanted by her splendid dance, she takes a chance to fly back to the forest. |
