Lesson 1 " Drawing Mae Krajang Design " |

Mae Krajang is one of the basic master design in traditional Thai Drawing. The design originated from the shapes of lotus and the tree' buds. The example of the basic master design in this lesson is called Krajang Ta Oil Design (Ta Oil means a sugar cane's bud). If you an observant person, you will see that there are buds on the joints of the sugar canes or bamboos. Such buds have the same shapes as the design in this lesson. For this reason, we can assume that Thai artists are observant because they can designs. In this lesson, you will learn how to draw the basic traditional Thai designs. There is smaller design inside a bigger one (the inner design has thinner line than that of the outside). The success in drawing traditional Thai designs depends on practice and observation. If you practice a lot, you will be more skilful. If you notice frequently, you can compare whether your work is as beautiful as the original one. |

2. Draw Mae Krajang Design. Begin with the top of the design by drawing the cured lines downward along both sides (see example). | |||

Remarks 1. The lines of the inner and the outer designs are different. The line of the outer one is thicken than of the inside design. 2. The traditional Thai Design stemmed from the shapes of living things in nature. Thus, the design must be drawn naturally that is - - it must look lively, delicate and movable like the creeping plants. If your drawing reflects the aforesaid features, you will be able to draw traditional Thai designs in advanced levels without very much effort. |
