Lesson 4 " Drawing Poom Khao Bin Design " |
![]() |
|||||
Poom Khao Bin is the design which, in particular, indicates the Thai culture. In the past, when Thai people wanted to offer the rice to the monks, they would put it on the bowl with a high saucer and make a sharp tip. Today we can see the bowls with the pointed tips but not the ones to be given to the monks but to those we respect. Most of them do not contain rice. They are decorated with flowers such as the globe amaranth flowers. Poom khao Bin is another important master Thai design because it can be extended to other design, e.g. Hang Singha (Lion's Tail) Design. |

Remarks 1. Don't let the design go beyond its outline, otherwise it will be distorted. 2. Please note that even though the traditional Thai design have similar outlines as those of the geometrical figures, the designs do not have the exact shapes as the geometrical ones (please see the outline in item 3). The traditional Thai designs are curved and graceful like the flower petals or leaves. If you draw them completely the same as the geometrical figures, the designs will be lifeless and not beautiful. It looks like they are blocked in the squares. |
