Lesson 7 " Drawing Hang Lai (the tail) of the Design "

Normally Hang Lai Design will be drawn as a decoration of the top of the Kranok Design. The Thai artists were inspired by the reptiles' tails (like those of snakes) and the flame. The lower part of the tail will be bigger than the top and will be winding. The methods in practice drawing Hang Lai Design are quite difficult. Most of the beginners draw it imbalancely which make the design look unnatural. The way to correct it is to notice from the lesson or the nature around you, and practice as much as possible. Then you will here a better development.

Instructions in drawing Hang Lai Design

1. Draw a right-angled triangle the same size as those stated in Lesson 5 and 6. Although you don't need to draw an equilateral triangle, you have to divide the base into two parts (1 inch each) and make the dots to divide the triangle (see example).

2. Draw a curved line from the base upward to the top and pull the line downward. Please note that the top of the design will be winding like the snakes' tails.

3. Draw another line in the middle and pull the line along the original one.

    4. The instructions to draw this design from the reverse side are the same as those drawn from the right.

Remarks
1.
Drawing Hang Lai Design is another difficult step. Before I can draw it well, I had spent a long time in practicing. So please don't be surprised or worried if you can't draw it well in the beginning and the lines may be distorted. Please try again and again.
2. If you are observant, you will note that this design originated from the reptiles like snakes or other reptiles which have similar tails. I can't explain the techniques clearly. I suggest that you notice from the example. Drawing a curved line which looks movable takes a long time and much notice.
3. You should, again, draw more then 100 tails. You will see that the 90th and 91st design look a lot better than the previous ones.
